What do you believe?
Over the span of a lifetime, we develop a set or system of beliefs. They guide us, give us a sense of purpose and help us interact with the world around us. We carry out actions every day based on what we believe. Some of those beliefs we learned at an early age and they were instilled by our parents and teachers. As we grew we developed our own understanding of what we think is true and what is not; or what we believe.
Our environment, family, sphere of friends, literature, culture, media, and other things influence us and bring us to a place where we can say we believe this or that. Our actions are then a reflection of what we think is true. How we live our lives in the time God has given us is a result of what we believe. If we are followers of Christ, the Bible becomes a critical resource for our lives. It is in the wonderful words of the Book that we find out what and how to believe. It is our baseline by which we can make sense of what is going on around us. It becomes the filter that everything we see, hear and experience must pass through to give us our understanding of life. Without it there is no reference point for us to engage in the life that was given to us by our Creator. We can find great solace in knowing there really is a plan in place for our lives!
Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Do you believe it? I do.
